Haste Makes Waste

I can’t stop thinking on a verse from yesterday’s reading,

day 21 in Proverbs.

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness;

but of every one that is hasty only to want.

~ Proverbs 21:5

I’m often hasty, rather than diligent.

I may think I’m being efficient,

but the reality is

haste only leaves me lacking.

Haste makes waste.

Diligence takes time.

I remember…

The Lord urging me over and over again…

Live slow. Breathe deep.

Take your time.

Be attentive, deliberate, purposeful

in matters

that matter.

So, I’ll slow down.

No more pushing through to the next thing…

catching up,

getting ahead,

missing out.

Life is deep in the small things,

and in times, in moments

that are prone to go unnoticed.

They are subtle.

They only seem small.

Like when a sudden bluster of wind

on an otherwise still day wraps us around,

I pray the small moments

capture me,

make me pause,

stir my senses to really live each day

and be

fully here.

It’s the small things

that make life big!
